Sully And Other High-Flying DVD & Blu-ray New Releases

Twas the week before Christmas
And while shopping online
Customers wanted more new releases
So we said that’s fine.

With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore for the above poem, but we are feeling especially festive right now, which is why we are honored to present this look at the latest (and, you know it, the greatest) new DVD and Blu-rays that have just been released.

Sully

Airline pilot Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (Tom Hanks) is hailed as a hero after safely landing his plane on the Hudson River–and saving the lives of all 155 people onboard–when his engines were disabled by Canada geese on January 15th, 2009. But a subsequent investigation into the incident forces Sully to defend his actions when simulations indicate that he could have made it to one of two airports. Director Clint Eastwood’s gripping true story, based on Sullenberger’s memoir, also stars Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Anna Gunn.

The Magnificent Seven

Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke reunite with “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua for this sagebrush saga which is both an updating of Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” and a remake of the 1960 Western. A bounty hunter (Washington), a gambler (Chris Pratt), a sharpshooter (Hawke), a tracker (Vincent D’Onofrio), a knife expert (Byung-hun Lee), a Comanche warrior (Martin Sensmeier), and a Mexican outlaw (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) must free a mining town from the grip of an evil industrialist (Peter Sarsgaard). Haley Bennett co-stars.

Storks

Years ago, the storks decided to change with the times…and got out of the baby-bringing business to deliver parcels for an online superstore instead. Trouble is, bucking-for-promotion Junior (voiced by Andy Samberg) accidentally processed the wish of young Nate Gardner (Anton Starkman) for a kid sibling…and now has to surreptitiously hit the road for an unauthorized drop-off! Animated charmer also features the voices of Katie Crown, Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell.

It Had to Be You

Sonia is a quirky, neurotic jingle writer who has always dreamt of a big and exciting life. Surprised by a sudden proposal and subsequent ultimatum from her easy-going boyfriend, Chris, Sonia has three days to decide whether she’ll join the ranks of her married friends or take a leap and pursue her fantasies. Blinded by anxiety, and pulled towards a fantastical idea of becoming the kind of woman she always idealized in films and literature, Sonia decides she isn’t ready to get married. Instead she will go on a solo trip to Rome and finally shed her inhibitions. However, reality quickly catches up to her as her journey proves a lot bumpier than the idyllic “Eat Pray Love” she’d envisioned. A whimsical romantic comedy that’s raunchy and yet gentle, “It Had To Be You” explores the choices women face today while satirizing cultural expectations of gender and romance. Cristin Milioti and Halley Feiffer star.
